Manolet Almonds’ ESG model is a living project, constantly evolving towards new horizons in environmental, social and labour development, which presents us with new challenges and short-, medium- and long-term objectives every day.

We monitor and work every day to reduce our carbon footprint and our environmental impact by implementing policies on energy and water efficiency and recycling.

Our circular economy model, which is based on achieving zero waste in our production, has led us to diversify our products into other sectors such as livestock farming and the agro-industrial sector (in the biomass and agricultural by-product recovery sub-sector).

At Manolet Almonds, we recognise that managing our environmental impact responsibly is an integral part of being a well-run, future-proof business. We are therefore committed to contributing to the global goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 °C by incorporating environmental improvement criteria into the way we work and into our business decisions.

How we operate

How we manage it

The Plan forms part of the company’s management system and is overseen by senior management. To this end:

Objectives, actions and those responsible are set out for the main areas for improvement.

Environmental indicators and the progress of planned actions are monitored on a regular basis.

The necessary human, technical and financial resources are allocated to its development.

The plan is reviewed regularly to incorporate new opportunities for improvement.

We work alongside our stakeholders

Improving environmental performance requires the cooperation of all stakeholders. Therefore:

We encourage our employees to get involved through training and environmental awareness initiatives.

We work with suppliers and farmers to promote more sustainable practices.

We share our commitment with our customers and other stakeholders, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and environmental responsibility.

Transparency

Manolet Almonds will periodically review this Climate Action Plan and report publicly on its progress, whilst maintaining a commitment to transparency and continuous improvement towards all its stakeholders.

The cardboard boxes that we use are made exclusively of materials certificated by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), guaranteeing that the paper comes from forests managed in a sustainable and responsible way.

This certification ensures that the production process protects biodiversity, avoiding illegal deforestation and respecting the rights of local communities.

Committed from the origin, all our raw materials are almonds sourced from Spain, which translates into a significant reduction in the carbon footprint associated with transport and a major boost to local economies.

The transformation processes are powered by clean energy generated by our photovoltaic panel installations, while the waste resulting from production, almond shells and green husks, are reused as biomass, a valuable source of energy that provides up to 4,750 Kcal per kg, and as nutritious feed for ruminant livestock.

The pursuit of balance – economic, environmental and social – requires exquisite care in personal relationships, giving more than we consume and establishing synergies that help us improve.

Food security, the origin of our raw materials and the compliance with the current regulations are a sine qua non condition in our products. Certifying that our products comply with the most rigurous international laws is not a compromise, but a guarantee.

Our employees and the society that welcomes us are very important to us. That is why we implement a workplace wellbeing and safety policy and work to ensure that it reaches every link in the Manolet Almonds work chain.

Environmental social governance

Being an active part of society and contributing through major social actions to the development of a better future for all is a key part of Manolet Almonds and their employees’ philosophy.

As part of our efforts to have a positive impact on society, we are pleased to announce we have reached a collaboration agreement with the University of Navarra Applied Medical Research Center (CIMA) to support research on childhood cancer.

CIMA is an internationally renowned biomedic research center, and their work in the field of pediatric oncology is key to the development of new treatments that improve the quality of life of affected children and their families.

Each scientific breakthrough opens the door to more efficient treatments. And the collaboration between institutions, researchers and companies is key to this process: by bringing together efforts and resources, we can speed up innovation and move closer, together, to a more hopeful future.
